Jingshan Park is a short, steep landscape counterpoint to the Forbidden City. Enter opposite Shenwumen, climb directly to Wanchun Pavilion for the axial panorama, then descend by one side ridge rather than retracing every stair.

How to book
The official route accepts passports, but parts of the booking flow may still be Chinese-only or require staff assistance.
Check before fixing the day's route; event and interior tickets may open separately.

Do not enter a made-up Chinese ID number. If the form blocks foreign documents or phone numbers, use the staffed route or contact the venue before departure.

How to visit
South gate (on Jingshan Front Street, across from the Forbidden City's Shenwu Gate—cross the road right after the Palace Museum; most convenient). Official route one: 'enter via south gate'.
Return to the South Gate or use the west exit toward Beihai.

Best time
Weekday early mornings (06:00–07:30 opening) are quiet with good light; around sunset you can shoot the Forbidden City panorama and the axis, but note entry stops at 20:30 (peak season). When combining with the Palace Museum's Shenwu Gate, come after the palace closes (after 17:00) for the panorama.
Foreigner notes
The main reward is the city panorama. On hazy or rainy days, enjoy the ridge walk but lower expectations for long-distance detail.
Take photographs from several short positions rather than holding the central rail, especially near sunset.
Queues, security checks and internal transfers can take longer than the walking distance suggests. Leave before the final return-service window.
The profile gives the normal plan. Recheck temporary closures, event controls, weather restrictions and last-entry wording on the official page before departure.
Copy the Chinese entrance name and full address into the map app; a broad attraction pin can be far from the visitor gate.
Avoid these mistakes
Inside the park, the Shouhuang Hall, Guande Hall and Guandi Temple courtyards close Mondays and keep shorter hours than the park itself (8:00–18:00 in peak season)—a Monday or evening visit finds them shut. For Shouhuang Hall, avoid Mondays and reach the courtyard before 17:30 (peak-season last entry).
Summit viewpoints like Wanchun Pavilion are extremely crowded at sunset and on weekend evenings, with congested paths. Go off-peak: weekday mornings or early afternoons; don't head up in the last half hour before close.
Online tickets say 'scan original ID to enter', which foreign passports can't do. Foreign visitors buy/exchange at the on-site ticket window (the free-ticket policy already says passports exchange for entry)—allow queue time.
Entry stops at 20:30 in peak season and 19:30 in off-season; downhill and exit time is underestimated. Plan around 'last entry' rather than 'closing time', and allow at least 40 minutes from the summit.
During events like the peony festival (Apr 11–30), prices and crowd controls may change. In mid-late April, check official notices before travelling for that day's fare and flow rules.
Jingshan is Beijing's highest point within the city wall; in strong wind/thunderstorm weather the summit is unpleasant and stone steps get slippery. Delay the climb in thunder/wind; wear non-slip shoes on the stone paths.
