Wushan Square (Exit D of Wushan Square Station, Metro Line 1, then walk to Hefang Street's west end); going west-to-east avoids doubling back.
Leave Qinghefang Historic Street from the side closest to the next stop, then follow the transport note: Use the metro or bus plus walking and navigate to the exact Chinese entrance; road access around West Lake is often controlled. Walking the same lane back is usually the slow option.

Avoid these mistakes
Holiday crowds on Hefang Street are huge (peak of 14,700 in a single day on 2024-05-02)—slow going, poor experience. Go on weekdays or arrive early in the morning; avoid afternoons during May Day/National Day holidays.
Assuming the whole district is free—actually venues like the Hu Qingyutang Chinese Medicine Museum inside charge separately. Check posted prices at each paid venue's entrance and buy per its rules; don't use third-party packages.
Hefang Street's east and west ends are regular roads (with traffic); only the middle section is a walking street, and mistakes cause detours. Use the Wushan Square – mid-street walkway – Drum Tower axis; mind the crossing facilities at the two ends.
Navigating 'Qinghefang' may hit multiple same-name places (there are other 'Qinghe' place names elsewhere). Navigate with '清河坊历史街区' or '吴山广场' and confirm it's at the foot of Wushan in Shangcheng District.
Shops close progressively at night; coming specifically for the interiors of old apothecaries may find them shut. Do museums and heritage shops by day (9:00–17:00); keep nights for lit streets and snacks.
Some vendors/touts push pricey 'day trips' or commentary services. The district is free to wander on your own—ignore street hustlers and ask prices before buying.
