Foreigner notes

Passports and documents

Supported (the official English page confirms individuals enter with valid documents—passports apply; weekend bookings register by passport real name).

Chinese phone number and booking account

Unknown (the online booking system's mainland-phone requirement isn't explained on the English page).

Payment methods

Special-exhibit tickets buy online or at the on-site info desk; cash and mobile payment generally work on site; international cards unverified.

Language and on-site communication

The official site has a full English version; permanent-gallery audio guides support 8 languages (Chinese, English, French, Japanese, German, Korean, Spanish, Italian); daily docent tours (Chinese/English) are offered.

Save the named gate

For Shanghai Museum (People's Square), save 上海博物馆(人民广场馆) and 人民大道201号 in the map app; a broad venue pin may stop short of the visitor gate.

!

Avoid these mistakes

1

Closed Mondays. Schedule Tue–Sun; closed Monday (except statutory holidays).

2

Weekend no-shows get refused. For weekends/holidays, complete the online booking on the official site/WeChat before travelling.

3

Entry stops at 16:00. Reach the Wusheng Road south gate by 15:30 and allow security time.

4

The People's Square north gate doesn't admit—it's an exit. Enter via the Wusheng Road south gate; map-navigate '上海博物馆南门'.

5

Confusing it with the East Hall. People's Square Hall is at No.201 Renmin Avenue (downtown); the East Hall at No.1952 Century Avenue, Pudong; they open on different days—don't book the wrong one.
