How to visit
Wutongshan Village trailhead (west side, the traditional main entry; bus 211; the paved road, Taishan Brook and Century-Old Trail all start here), or the south side from Liantang/Xianhu direction via Little Wutong to the summit.
Leave Wutong Mountain from the side closest to the next stop; check the transport note: Use the listed Chinese name and district; allow extra time for Shenzhen's long cross-city journeys. Keep the final section easy enough for a calm return.

Southeastern 'Biwu Qifeng' area, reachable via a 4-m lane; sunrise mornings and sunset light, looking south over Dapeng Bay and Shatoujiao; includes the National Forest Park parking area.
Best time
Depart early on weekday mornings (avoid weekend crowds); winter–spring (Nov–Apr) has less rain and suits hiking, while summer (May–Oct) is hot with July and September storms making summits inadvisable. The 'Wutong Yanyun' cloud-and-fog vista is best right after rain clears.
Foreigner notes
Free hiking usually needs no ticket or real-name registration, so a passport isn't needed in principle. Vehicle booking goes through the WeChat account (requires WeChat + real-name info); whether foreign passports can complete real-name verification there isn't officially stated. Foreign tourists should prefer public transport + hiking to avoid self-driving booking uncertainty.

No ticket-payment step in the park; the Wutong summit bus costs ¥10/¥5 with no official detail on payment (cash/QR)—bring small cash. Parking in the National Forest Park area is free.

Avoid these mistakes
Haohan Slope is slippery after rain and has seen serious fall accidents. Don't descend the steep steps there on wet days—use the paved mountain road instead; wear non-slip hiking shoes and bring trekking poles.
Summer (May–Oct) brings frequent typhoons and storms, especially July and September, when trails may close temporarily and the summit bus stops. Check Shenzhen Weather's typhoon/storm warnings and the 'Wutong Mountain Scenic Area' WeChat account's same-day notice before leaving.
The Yantian/Shataujiao-direction trails are fully exposed all summer. Choose the shadier Taishan Brook or the west-side paved road; carry water and sun protection.
Self-driving can't enter: social vehicles are limited to 30/day and need advance booking on the WeChat account—unbooked cars can't drive in. Prefer bus 211 (Wutongshan Village) or metro + bus; if you must drive, book well ahead and arrive on time (3 no-shows = blacklist).
Opening-hour info conflicts (8:00–18:00 vs 06:00–19:00), and night climbing may be turned back or face fire-control checks. Follow 'in at dawn, out before dark'—start descending by 16:00 in summer; don't plan night climbs.
Unofficial wild routes (Taohuayuan, Yanziya, Zhengkeng stream-cliff climbs) are high-risk, easy to get lost on, and have seen robberies. Stick to mature routes—the paved road, Taishan Brook steps and Dengyun Trail—and don't follow leaderless wild lines.
