Foreigner notes

Passports and documents

The official ticket page lists passports among valid IDs (ID card, HK/Macau pass, Taiwan pass, home-return certificate, passport); you can book with passport info on the official ticket site and redeem at entry with the original passport.

Chinese phone number and booking account

Unknown (official pages don't state whether a mainland phone number is required; the ticketing site usually asks for one during registration/purchase, and foreign-number support is unconfirmed).

Payment methods

Official channels use online payment (WeChat/Alipay), with ticket line 029-81399127 on site; cash and international-card on-site payment aren't confirmed on official pages.

Language and on-site communication

The official site is bilingual Chinese/English (with an En toggle); the English ticketing page confirms passport entry. English audio guides/tours exist via interpretation service 029-81399047/029-81399048; exact languages need on-site confirmation.

Avoid these mistakes

1

No advance booking, no on-site ticket—ticket sales stop at the 65,000 peak-season cap. Always real-name book in advance on the official site or official WeChat account, choosing a time slot; don't buy on site.

2

Arriving late for your slot may block timed entry (slotted ticket check). Arrive at the North Gate to queue at least half an hour early and enter in your slot.

3

Wrong entrance: the North Gate is the only entrance—other gates don't admit. Navigate to the museum's North Gate/Qinling North Road; don't follow roadside touts elsewhere.

4

Forgetting the original passport blocks redemption. Enter with the original passport matching the order; the order name and document number must match the passport.

5

Roadside unlicensed cars, freelance touts and day-trip packages overcharge or drag you to knock-off pavilions. Use regular transport (Metro Line 9 + bus/official shuttle), buy tickets only from official channels, and beware of low-price hustlers.

6

Tight exit time and hard-to-get taxis at return peak. Allow return time and leave promptly after the 17:00 last ticket check; depart before Line 9's last train.
