How to visit
South Gate = Forest Park ticket station (Luoguta area, Jinbian Road, by the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park management office); direct buses run from the Zhangjiajie city central bus station. Don't confuse it with Jundiping's 'Biaozhi Gate' (East Gate/Wujiayu ticket station)—they're about 30 km apart.
Leave Zhangjiajie National Forest Park — South Gate through the exit nearest the next street or temple district, not necessarily the gate you entered; check the return advice: Confirm the exact gate in Chinese; entrances can be one to two hours apart by road.

Mihun Platform, Tianxia First Bridge and Hallelujah Mountain (Avatar filming site); about 2 hours on the summit trail. Afterwards take an eco-cart to Tianzishan cableway's lower station (¥72 one-way) down to the Wulingyuan Biaozhi Gate, or return the way you came to the South Gate.
Best time
Arrive at the South Gate (Forest Park ticket station) before 8:00 on weekdays to avoid tour-group peaks; Jinbian Creek has good morning light and few visitors; summer mornings are cool for hiking, and after 14:00 tour groups converge.
Foreigner notes
For Zhangjiajie National Forest Park — South Gate, save 武陵源风景名胜区南门(森林公园) and 军地坪武陵源风景名胜区内(西南角) in the map app; a broad venue pin may stop short of the visitor gate.
The official channel is confirmed, but the checked source does not fully document foreign-document checkout; treat passport support as unknown.
For Zhangjiajie National Forest Park — South Gate, the usual crowd pattern is only a planning hint; check the day's notice and the queue at the gate.
Normal opening profile: Current gate reference: 07:30-17:00; last entry 17:00. Use the official Yijiyou mini-program for a real-name gate and time-slot reservation. Older English material says 06:30–18:30; the current ticket-gate reference is safer.
Save 武陵源风景名胜区南门(森林公园) and 军地坪武陵源风景名胜区内(西南角) before leaving; the last walk is easier when the gate is already marked.
Avoid these mistakes
Wrong ticket type: platform 'one-day tour'/'with transfer' package prices aren't the admission price. Recognize only the structure 'Wulingyuan core-scenic admission ¥165 + eco-cart ¥60'; treat platform prices as reference only. The 4-day ticket covers everything—no need to buy again.
Finishing Jinbian Creek leaves you with a tricky return—Shuirao Simen has no eco-cart directly back to the South Gate. At Shuirao Simen, transfer to an eco-cart toward Ten-Mile Gallery/Bailong Elevator to continue, or confirm that day's eco-cart return route in advance. Staying in Wulingyuan town (near Biaozhi Gate) lets you tour in one direction all day.
