Imported official reservation note
The official FAQ for Beijing municipal parks states 'No reservation required'. It is recommended (not mandatory) to buy a real-name ticket 1–7 days ahead via 'Changyou Gongyuan' (WeChat account/mini-program/website www.bjgyol.com.cn) or the official 'Tiantan' account/mini-program; e-tickets are valid only on the visit day. If not full, you can scan to buy at the entrance or have staff place the order at the integrated service window. First-time real-name online purchase for foreign passports needs a mainland China phone number to receive a code (foreign numbers not yet supported); without one, use the offline integrated service window—no booking or phone number needed. No third-party sales are authorized. After buying online no paper ticket is needed; show the e-ticket QR code and original passport.

How to visit
Recommended: the East Gate (Exit A, Tiantandongmen Station, Metro Line 5)—direct metro access, closest to the core sights (through the Long Corridor to the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests) without crossing the whole park. Exit via the South Gate (buses 36/53/122 etc.) or return to the East Gate for the metro. Classic alternative: enter the South Gate (Line 8 Tianqiao Station) and walk the central axis south-to-north (Circular Mound Altar → Danbi Bridge → Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests); the South Gate is also where the official group-tour guide point sits. The West Gate (Line 8 Tianqiao Station) is near the Divine Music Hall.

Southern part of the inner altar: a three-tier white-marble terrace with the 'Tianxin Stone' echo spot, used for the winter-solstice sacrifice. Allow 20–30 minutes.

Best time
Weekdays, go early: the park opens at 6:00 and the core sights at 8:00—arrive before 8:00 and enter the core area right at opening (few people, good light); or enter after 16:00 (entry stops 21:00; summer evenings have good light and fewer visitors). Avoid Mondays (core sights closed). In peak season (Apr–Oct) mornings 6:00–8:00 are busy with local exercisers before the core area opens; 8:00–10:00 is the tour-group rush.
Imported official opening note
The park and the paid sites keep separate hours, each split into peak/off seasons. Park: peak (Apr 1–Oct 31) opens 06:00, last entry 21:00, closes 22:00; off-season (Nov 1–Mar 31) opens 06:30, last entry 21:00, closes 22:00 (entry stops an hour before close). Paid sites (Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, Echo Wall, Circular Mound, Hall of Abstinence, North Kitchen, North Sacrificial Animals Pavilion): peak opens 08:00, last entry 17:30, closes 18:00; off-season opens 08:00, last entry 16:30, closes 17:00. The paid sites close Mondays (open normally on statutory holidays). The park itself has no fixed closure day. Note: on Mondays, even when the park is open, the core paid sites are closed (except statutory holidays)—avoid touring the core area on Mondays.

First-time real-name online ticket purchase requires a mainland China phone number to receive a verification code; foreign numbers are not yet supported. Without a mainland number, use the offline integrated service window (staff place the order; no phone number or booking needed).
Online: mobile payment like WeChat Pay/Alipay. Offline integrated service windows: cash (RMB), BEIJING PASS and foreign bank cards (VISA/Mastercard, etc.). The park-management centre's English FAQ confirms these payment methods apply to Beijing municipal parks, including the Temple of Heaven.
The 'Tanyu Shiguang' mini-program e-guide (at each gate, 08:15–18:00): ¥30 Chinese / ¥40 foreign-language, no deposit, ~19 languages (incl. English, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, German; per the Chinese site's guide-services page). The English site separately lists a rental e-guide at ¥40 plus ¥50 deposit, rentable at the four gates (the two price statements conflict—see uncertainties). Group tours: South Gate visitor service centre, peak season 08:00–18:00 / off-season 08:00–17:00 (English site: 08:00–15:00), bilingual; ¥200–350/hour Chinese, ¥300–450/hour English, book 2 days ahead, phone 010-67025289. Basic park entry and access to the principal altar compounds may be sold differently. Check the product scope instead of assuming every gate is included.
Avoid these mistakes
On Mondays the core paid sights—the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, Echo Wall and Circular Mound Altar—close all day, leaving only the park. Avoid Mondays (except statutory holidays); if Monday is your only option, buy just the ¥15/¥10 park ticket, not a through or attraction ticket.
A ¥15/¥10 park ticket doesn't include the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests or other core sights, and topping up on site wastes time. To see the Hall, Echo Wall and Circular Mound Altar, buy the combined ticket (¥34 peak / ¥28 off season) or the ¥20 attraction ticket in advance; buy the basic park ticket only for a park stroll.
Foreign tourists often stall at phone-number verification online (foreign numbers can't receive the code, and first-time real-name binding needs a mainland number). Go to the park's integrated service window and let staff place the order: pay cash (RMB), BEIJING PASS, VISA or Mastercard—no booking or phone number needed.
Tickets bought on third-party platforms (Klook, Viator, GetYourGuide, Ctrip, etc.) may not be recognized or cost more than official. The Temple of Heaven officially authorizes no third-party sales; buy only via 'Changyou Gongyuan' (WeChat account/website www.bjgyol.com.cn) or the official 'Tiantan' account/mini-program, or on site at the integrated service window.
Map searches can confuse Temple of Heaven Park with Tiantan Hospital or Tiantan Road, or route you to the wrong gate. Search the Chinese name 'Tiantan Gongyuan' and use No.7 Tiantan Neidongli, Dongcheng District. Specify your gate: East Gate is by Exit A of Tiantandongmen Station on Metro Line 5; West Gate is near Tianqiao Station on Line 8.
