The cited official city information describes the public Kuanzhai Alley area but does not confirm a unified reservation; restaurants, exhibitions and shows are separate.

When to book

No official advance-reservation lead time is published for the public area.

Booking steps

  1. 1

Read the current official city notice and confirm the intended visit is the public alley area.

  2. 2

Check temporary event, crowd-control and construction information before entering.

  3. 3

Verify any museum, show or paid experience with its own official operator.

What to bring

No passport workflow is published for the public alleys; carry the original passport for a separate venue.

If booking does not work

If a lane is restricted, follow the official diversion and do not treat a merchant reservation as street admission.

Imported official reservation note

A free public district with no official unified booking flow—just walk in. Paid activities in the courtyards (performances, exhibitions) with booking requirements follow each event's notice (e.g. the 'Kuanzhai · Wujie' consumption/activity rules). The old official site kzxz.com.cn is unreachable; official info comes from Chengdu Culture & Tourism Group and the '宽窄巷子' official WeChat account.

How to visit

Start

Kuanzhai Alley sits around Jinhe Road in Shaocheng Street, Qingyang District, made of three parallel lanes: Kuan (wide), Zhai (narrow) and Jing (well). Metro Line 4 reaches Kuanzhai Alley station directly; the Changshun Shang Jie/Jinhe Road junction is the main entrance.

Finish

Leave Kuanzhai Alley from the side closest to the next stop, then follow the transport note: Use the metro or a licensed taxi and navigate with the Chinese name and address. Walking the same lane back is usually the slow option.

  1. 1
    Stop 1Kuan Alley

The widest main lane, concentrated with old-Chengdu courtyards, teahouses, gaiwan tea and ear-cleaning experiences.

  2. 2
    Stop 2Zhai Alley

Fine courtyards with Western-style bars, cafés and specialty restaurants.

  3. 3
    Stop 3Jing Alley

The culture wall, brick reliefs and street-life display section.

  4. 4
Stop 4'Kuanzhai · Wujie' performance node

From 15 May 2026: 'drama in the courtyards / around corners / in the lanes', with excerpts from the folk dance 'Awakened Lion' and the musical 'Jinsha'.

  5. 5
Stop 5Protected courtyards like Zhang Caiqin's former residence

See the layout of Qing-dynasty courtyard residences.

  6. 6
Stop 6Featured courtyards and balcony performance points

Kuanchang, Rongyao Courtyard, Xiaowanji, Tingxiang and others.

Best time

Weekday mornings (9:00–11:00) are quieter; the best atmosphere is after dark when lanterns light up, but crowds are heavier. 'Kuanzhai·Wujie' brings intensive performances May–June 2026.

Foreigner notes

Passports and documents

The free open district needs no tickets or booking, so no passport online-purchase flow exists; just bring your original passport for paid courtyards/shows. No foreign-visitor-specific lane is documented.

Chinese phone number and booking account

No mainland China phone number needed in the public district; paid courtyards/shows may ask, with no unified requirement published (unknown).

Payment methods

No unified payment rules published; district merchants broadly accept Alipay/WeChat—ask vendors about cash.

Language and on-site communication

No English official site found (the former kzxz.com.cn is defunct); on-site English signage unverified (unknown).

Map the arrival point

Use the full Chinese name and address for Kuanzhai Alley, then check the final walk from the drop-off point to the gate.

!

Avoid these mistakes

1

Assuming you need a 'Kuanzhai Alley ticket' and buying third-party products. The streets are free—just walk in; don't buy any 'ticket'-type product.

2

The old official site kzxz.com.cn is defunct, so 'official info' floating online may be stale. Follow the Chengdu Culture & Tourism Group news and the 'Kuanzhai Alley' official WeChat account.

3

During 'Kuanzhai·Wujie' and other performances, some courtyards are capacity-limited or require spending to enter. Check the Chengdu Culture & Tourism Group / Kuanzhai Alley official WeChat announcements before travelling.

6

Confusing Kuanzhai Alley with Jinli (about 4 km apart). Navigate to 'Kuanzhai Alley Scenic Area' (Qingyang District); Metro Line 4 goes directly to Kuanzhai Alley station.

Items to reconfirm
  • The free district has no ticketing flow, so 'passport' doesn't apply; however, there's no official English material, so restrictions for foreign visitors in paid courtyards can't be confirmed. — Check the 'Kuanzhai Alley' official WeChat announcements or ask at the on-site visitor centre before travelling.
  • No official unified hours for the public lanes are published; 'all day' comes from a third-party guide (meet99), and shop and show hours differ. — Follow the Chengdu Culture & Tourism Group's official announcements.
  • 'Kuanzhai·Wujie' show prices and participation aren't published; courtyard activity rules need case-by-case verification. — Follow the 'Kuanzhai Alley' official WeChat activity announcements.
