How to book

No advance booking
Channel

The official park site identifies People's Park but does not publish a current unified visitor reservation route; separate activities may differ.

When to book

No official advance-reservation lead time is published for the public park area.

Booking steps

  1. 1

Read the official park notice and check whether any event or construction affects the selected entrance.

  2. 2

Enter the public park through the current open gate and follow on-site instructions.

  3. 3

Verify tea houses, performances or paid activities separately with their official operators.

What to bring

No public-park passport workflow is published; carry the original passport for a separate ticketed activity.

If booking does not work

If an entrance is closed, use the official diversion and do not treat a separate event booking as park admission.

Imported official reservation note

The park's public areas are free with no booking. Only the Sichuan Railway Protection Movement History Museum requires phone booking (028-89769668)—free, open 09:00–17:00, closed Mondays. During Spring Festival 2025 (Jan 28–Feb 4) the official issued a crowd-cap notice: when real-time footfall hits 15,000, crowd-control and diversion plans kick in; on holidays, avoid the afternoon peak.

How to visit

Start

Recommended: the North Gate (main gate, where the visitor centre sits, on Citang Street side), walk from Exit A of People's Park Station on Metro Lines 2/17. Official public talks also meet at the main-gate visitor centre.

Finish

Leave Chengdu People's Park from the side closest to the next stop, then follow the transport note: Use the metro or a licensed taxi and navigate with the Chinese name and address. Walking the same lane back is usually the slow option.

  1. 1
    Stop 1North Gate visitor centre

Park-history overview; meeting point for the official public talks.

  2. 2
    Stop 2'Banbian' market

    Old-Chengdu street-life district.

  3. 3
    Stop 3Heming Teahouse

Century-old teahouse with gaiwan tea, bamboo chairs and ear-cleaning—a teacher gathering spot that continues today.

  4. 4
Stop 4The artificial lake and East Hill

Lake-heart pavilion, boats and rockeries; the lotus pond in the southeast corner blooms in summer.

  5. 5
    Stop 5Air-raid shelter

A civil-defense science exhibition; a cool summer spot.

  6. 6
    Stop 6'Zhiyu' matchmaking corner

Chengdu's famous matchmaking corner, busiest on weekends.

  7. 7
Stop 7Monument to Those Who Died in the Autumn 1911 Railway Protection Movement

National key cultural-relics site, about 31.85 m tall, with stele inscriptions on all four sides in kaishu, caoshu, xingshu and lishu.

Best time

Weekday mornings (9:00–11:00) are quiet; for Heming's gaiwan tea go in the morning or early afternoon. During the chrysanthemum show (late Oct–Nov each year) crowds surge—avoid weekend afternoons.

Foreigner notes

Passports and documents

The park is free with no ticket gates, so no passport purchase applies; free venues like the exhibition hall require registering with valid ID (passport) or per venue rules.

Chinese phone number and booking account

Not required (the park's public areas need no phone number; for the exhibition hall's phone booking, try on-site registration if you lack a Chinese number).

Payment methods

Park entry is free with no payment; dining like Heming Teahouse and Zhong Dumplings accepts WeChat/Alipay, some stalls cash—carry a little cash.

Language and on-site communication

The official site is Chinese-only with mainly Chinese signage and no official English tours. Free public talks (Thursdays 10:00–11:00, to 31 Dec 2025) are in Chinese, meeting at the visitor centre at the main (North) gate.

Map the arrival point

Use the full Chinese name and address for Chengdu People's Park, then check the final walk from the drop-off point to the gate.

!

Avoid these mistakes

1

Mistaking in-park spending like Heming Teahouse for a ticket. The park itself is free—no ticket needed; pay the posted price for tea/food. At Heming Teahouse, sharing tables is the norm when crowded.

2

Empty run at the exhibition hall on Mondays. The Sichuan Railway-Protection Movement exhibition closes Mondays (open on holidays as usual); the orchid and bonsai gardens close Mondays for maintenance. On Mondays, stick to the public park areas.

3

Holiday capacity limits can block you at the gate. On big holidays like Spring Festival the park limits and diverts at a 35,000 live-visitor peak—arrive early (before 9:00) or avoid holidays.

4

Pets and non-motorized vehicles are refused. The official park rules ban pets, non-motorized vehicles, high-power speakers, flammable/explosive items and firearms. Don't bring dogs or shared bikes in.

5

Map navigation to the wrong entrance. Official address: No.9 Citang Street, Qingyang District; Exit A of People's Park Station (Metro Lines 2/17). Navigate to 'Chengdu People's Park', not internal facilities like the 'boat pier'.

6

Matchmaking-corner and teahouse hawkers may solicit (marriage-broker pitches, fortune-telling). The park rules explicitly ban fortune-telling and begging; official public talks are clearly free and partner with no third parties—beware of scams.

Items to reconfirm
  • The official site doesn't publish unified park hours—only public lighting and in-park venue hours; whether public areas are open round-the-clock depends on the site. — Call the park office 028-86132021 before travelling, or follow the 'Chengdu People's Park' WeChat account.
  • In-park teahouse/dining payment methods (cash, foreign cards) aren't officially stated, and teahouse prices aren't posted either. — Ask the Heming Teahouse staff on site; bring WeChat/Alipay and a little cash.
  • Heming Teahouse tea prices aren't on the official site (community sources often cite roughly ¥10–30 for gaiwan tea, for reference only). — Go by the shop's same-day posted price.
