How to book

Passport route · assistance may be needed
Channel

Use the museum's official reservation or ticket channel and select the Sanxingdui Museum galleries for the visit date.

When to book

No fixed advance window is stated in the cited official homepage; check the live date calendar.

Booking steps

  1. 1

Open the official Sanxingdui Museum site and follow the current ticket or reservation link.

  2. 2

Select the visit date, ticket type and any separately ticketed exhibition.

  3. 3

If the form does not expose a passport option, take the original passport to the staffed service desk before entry.

  4. 4

Save the reservation record and the selected gallery cutoff or last-entry instruction.

What to bring

The cited official homepage does not fully document the passport workflow; carry the original passport and use staffed verification.

If booking does not work

If the official date calendar is unavailable or sold out, wait for the museum's current notice; do not invent an alternative booking route.

Imported official reservation note

Fully real-name booking. Tickets release daily at 20:00, bookable up to 5 days ahead for day and extended tickets; during Golden Week and short holidays, day and extended tickets release in one batch 5 days ahead. Book only via the official site, WeChat account (mini-program) or official Douyin; unofficial purchases risk being refused entry. The site has a dedicated 'inbound-visitor purchase' channel (inbound visitors only; mainland residents book via the WeChat mini-program). After booking, foreign visitors bring the original document used for purchase to the ticket centre to exchange tickets.

About 2.5-3 hours inside the museum; allow half a day to a full day with round-trip travel from Chengdu

How to visit

Start

Museum main entrance (west side of the Yazi River in Guanghan city, Sichuan). From Chengdu: drive via National Road 108/Jingkun Expressway (about 30 km); take high-speed rail to Guanghan North Station then bus/taxi; or the Chengdu scenic shuttle Line 1.

Finish

Finish Sanxingdui Museum with one slower gallery or the shop, then leave through the signed exit and check the transport note before heading back: This is a day trip in Guanghan. Use the intercity rail or an official tourist service, then a local taxi or bus to the museum.

  1. 1
    Stop 1Prologue hall

Theme intro: 'Sleeping for millennia, waking to astonish the world'; the Bronze Standing Figure is in this area.

  2. 2
    Stop 2'A Century's Dream' gallery

A century of Sanxingdui archaeology and the excavation history of the site.

  3. 3
Stop 3'The Lofty Royal City' gallery

The ancient city, bronze ritual vessels and artifacts symbolizing kingship.

  4. 4
Stop 4'Heaven, Earth and the Divine' gallery

Core ritual objects—bronze masks, the sacred tree and more—must-see.

  5. 5
Stop 5Dialogue with Sanxingdui interactive experience hall

    Multimedia interaction—worth stopping to experience.

  6. 6
    Stop 6Restoration hall

Building 3: open conservation and restoration site, 09:00–18:00.

  7. 7
Stop 7Campus gardens and culture-creative zone

After the tour, browse culture-creative products and rest.

Best time

Enter as early as possible after the weekday opening (08:30–09:30); in the summer extended-hours period, after-17:00 extended tickets see fewer people. Tickets release at 20:00 for up to 5 days ahead—grab hot dates early.

Foreigner notes

Passports and documents

Supported. The official site has a dedicated 'Inbound Tourist Ticket Purchase' channel (limited to inbound tourists); foreign visitors book a real-name slot with the original purchase document (e.g. passport), then exchange for a ticket at the ticket centre. Enquiries: 0838-5533333.

Chinese phone number and booking account

The inbound tourist channel bypasses the usual WeChat mini-program flow; whether a mainland China phone number is mandatory isn't clearly stated—try that channel and, if it fails, call 0838-5533333.

Payment methods

Online via WeChat Pay; the ticket centre's exchange/purchase payment (cash/bank card) isn't itemized on the verification page.

Language and on-site communication

The official site is bilingual (the inbound-tourist purchase guide is in English); human talks offer foreign-language service at the same price as Chinese (1–10 people ¥400/session, 11–20 ¥600/session); audio guides ¥30/unit.

Save the named gate

For Sanxingdui Museum, save 三星堆博物馆 and 向新路133号 in the map app; a broad venue pin may stop short of the visitor gate.

!

Avoid these mistakes

1

Without a booking, same-day tickets sell out and you can't enter. Tickets release daily at 20:00 with a 5-day advance window; for hot dates (holidays, summer) grab them the moment the 5-day window opens.

2

Buying from unofficial channels (scalpers, third-party platforms) risks no entry or disputes. The museum authorizes no third-party sales—book only via the official site/WeChat account/official Douyin; inbound tourists use the official 'Inbound Tourist Ticket Purchase' route.

3

Foreign visitors assuming they can swipe their passport in directly. The official notice requires foreign visitors to bring the original ticket-purchase document and exchange for a ticket at the ticket centre after booking.

4

Missing the extended-ticket check window or showing up at night with a day ticket. Extended tickets check in 17:00–18:00; day tickets enter in your booked slot—distinguish the types.

5

Illegal photos in the galleries (flash, selfie sticks, no-photo zones). Don't use flash or selfie sticks, don't touch exhibits, and no photos where a ban sign is posted.

6

Assuming you can visit the Sanxingdui excavation site. The official FAQ confirms the dig site isn't open; don't be misled by unofficial 'archaeological-site exploration' products.
