Badaling is the easiest major Great Wall section to reach but also the most managed and busiest. Decide on the north-wall distance and cableway before leaving the visitor center, then turn around while the return connection is still comfortable.

Open the verified Klook product and select the exact visit date and admission option.

Add every traveler with the passport name, number and nationality exactly as printed.

Check inclusions, service markup and refund rules, pay, and save the voucher or confirmation.
Bring the original passport used in the booking and the saved confirmation or platform voucher.
If the recommended route is sold out, compare the official channel and other verified international products; never substitute a Chinese ID number.

How to visit
Guancheng (fortress town) entry point—the 'Beimen Suoyue' gate at Badaling's Guancheng, the main scenic-area entrance. Walk from the car park/bus stop or take the free shuttle to Guancheng; the north-line aerial cableway starts near Guntiangou car park, and the south-line ground cable car has its own station.
Return to the same transport hub before the final shuttle departure.

Pass ticket check into the town; on the tower there is a display of Ming-era cannons including the 'Chici Shenwei Dajiangjun'. First look at the east/west gate plaques 'Juyong Waizhen' and 'Beimen Suoyue'.

First walking section of the wall; the 'Haohan Stone' is near North Tower 4. Allow 20–30 minutes.
- 3Stop 3North-8 Tower · Hero Slope
Highest point of the north line at about 888 m above sea level, with panoramic views of the wall—a key photo stop. Allow 30 minutes.
- 4Stop 4North-line cableway station
Optional: take the aerial cableway down from the north-line high point to Guntiangou to save energy; the cableway runs from 7:30.
- 5Stop 5South line, South Tower 1 to South Tower 4
Relatively flat with fewer visitors. South Tower 4 is the high point of the south line, and the 'Haohan Stele' is on the south line. Allow 30–40 minutes.
- 6Stop 6South-line ground cable-car station
Optional: ride the ground cable car up and down the south line; it runs from 8:50, stops selling two-way tickets at 13:00 and stops running at 16:00.
- 7Stop 7Guancheng shopping street and car park
Return: buy souvenirs, connect to the shuttle/bus/high-speed-rail transfer, and mind the last bus times.
Best time
Arrive as early as possible after peak-season opening (6:30–8:00) to avoid the 9:00–14:00 tour-group rush. Best season is Apr–Oct. Rain, snow, high wind or low visibility may close the site or hurt the experience—check the weather forecast and official notices before leaving.

Peak season (Apr 1–Oct 31): ticket check 6:30–16:30, sales stop 16:30, park closes 17:30. Off season (Nov 1–Mar 31): ticket check 7:30–16:00, sales stop 16:00, closes 16:30. North-line aerial cableway runs from 7:30, south-line ground cable car from 8:50; two-way tickets stop selling at 13:00 and both stop running at 16:00.

The real-name ticket/booking system supports valid documents like passports (existing project record: passportSupported=true); the English government site confirms the on-site purchase channel works, so foreign visitors buying with a passport on site face no barriers. The free-ticket policy mainly targets Chinese citizens (Chinese citizens under 18 or 60+); the wording 'foreign personnel follow the corresponding policies above' usually means foreign visitors buy adult or discounted tickets.
Real-name online booking usually requires a mainland China phone number to receive a verification code. Foreign tourists without one can buy a ticket with their passport at the on-site window (the English government site confirms walk-up purchases are possible).
On-site ticket windows accept cash; online channels use WeChat/Alipay. International bank cards are not confirmed as usable directly at the scenic-area window.
The Beijing government's English site has a Badaling page. English signage and English ticket notes at the scenic area are limited; check prices on the English site in advance. No official English audio-guide info is available.
Choose the last tower based on the return shuttle or train rather than on distance alone, and include queue time at the descent.
Avoid these mistakes
In peak season the cableway/cable car queues can exceed an hour. Avoid holidays and weekend peaks by arriving at opening time, or walk up instead (about 1–1.5 hours from the north line to North Tower 8).
Missing the last return service can leave you stranded. Check last-train times for Badaling Great Wall high-speed station, suburban Line S2 and bus 877 in advance, and start your return about an hour before the 17:30 closure; the cableway/cable car stop running at 16:00.
The free-ticket policy applies only to Chinese citizens (under 18, 60+, etc.), not foreign visitors. Foreign tourists should buy adult or concession tickets and show their passport on site.
Conflicting booking guidance can leave you without tickets or queueing (peak-season limits). In peak season book a real-name slot in advance via the official 'Badaling Great Wall' WeChat account/mini-program; the English government page says walk-up tickets exist, but it's risky in high season—use the official booking channel.
One-day 'ticket + cable car' packages are often marked up or include unrelated items. Buy only the one-way/round-trip cableway or cable-car ticket (one-way ¥100, round trip ¥140, platform price) plus the admission ticket, and never buy from roadside vendors.
The mountain is windy with big temperature swings and no shade—brutal sun in summer, bitter cold in winter. Dress by season (wind jacket/sun hat) and carry water; some sections are slippery after rain or snow, so check the scenic-area weather notice.
