Beijing Railway Station
Beijing Railway Station is the central-city rail hub serving many eastern and northeastern routes. Line 2 and the compact forecourt make it more central than the newer hubs, but the busy exterior and similarly named Beijing stations demand precise navigation.

Preparation steps
- 1
Verify all passenger passports in 12306.
- 2
Confirm the station is Beijing / 北京, not another Beijing hub.
- 3
Save the train number and current gate details.
The original passport used for the booking; keep the train number, departure time and carriage details available offline.
If the passport does not scan, use a staffed verification lane or ask the railway service desk rather than repeatedly trying an ID-card gate.
Departure walkthrough
Take Line 2 to Beijing Railway Station and follow railway-entry signs; street access is via the main forecourt.
Move from the waiting hall to the announced platform only when boarding opens.
- 1Step 1Exit toward the railway station
From Line 2, follow Beijing Railway Station signs instead of an unrelated street exit.
- 2Step 2Cross the forecourt flow
Keep luggage close and follow the designated entrance queue.
- 3Step 3Use passport verification
Present the original passport at a staffed lane before security.
- 4Step 4Find the gate by train number
Do not rely only on the destination because several trains may serve it.
- 5Step 5Board through the staffed channel
Keep moving to the marked carriage position after reaching the platform.
The station is central, but forecourt congestion and security still justify a 45–60 minute buffer.
Arriving and getting onward
Subway
Use Line 2 from the station connection.
- Best for
- Central Beijing and simple onward transfers
- Watch for
- Late-night arrivals must check the final train.
Official taxi
After exiting, turn left and follow Taxi / 出租车 signs.
- Best for
- Luggage and direct hotel travel
- Watch for
- Use the managed queue, not vehicles soliciting in the forecourt.
E-hailing
Use the signed route toward the pedestrian bridge and B1 underground parking pickup.
- Best for
- A ride booked after confirming the pickup level
- Watch for
- The pickup point is not directly outside the main doors.
Foreigner notes
The English word 'Beijing' alone can be misunderstood when several major stations appear in search results.
The electronic booking is valid even when a domestic ID-card gate cannot read a foreign passport.
Confirm the metro exit, taxi queue or pickup zone before walking away from the station so the busy forecourt does not become a second transfer.
Avoid these mistakes
