Beijing South Railway Station
Beijing South is the city's principal high-speed rail hub for Tianjin, Shanghai and many southern destinations. Subway Lines 4 and 14 connect directly, but the layered station and busy security flow reward an early, ticket-led approach.

Book as soon as your preferred service becomes available
Preparation steps
- 1
Verify every passenger's passport in 12306.
- 2
Confirm the departure station reads Beijingnan / 北京南.
- 3
Save the train number, gate and carriage details offline.
The original passport used for the booking; keep the train number, departure time and carriage details available offline.
If the passport does not scan, use a staffed verification lane or ask the railway service desk rather than repeatedly trying an ID-card gate.
Departure walkthrough
Use the integrated subway transfer or the signed north/south station entrance.
Board only after the gate and platform shown for your train are announced.
- 1Step 1Reach the railway zone
From Lines 4 or 14, follow railway departure signs rather than street exits.
- 2Step 2Pass entrance security
Present the original passport at the staffed channel and send all bags through screening.
- 3Step 3Find the waiting area
Match the train number to the live board; gate details may update after you enter.
- 4Step 4Use a staffed gate
At boarding, choose the passport or staffed lane when the ID-card gate is not suitable.
- 5Step 5Go directly to the carriage
Platform dwell time is limited; use carriage markers instead of stopping at the first escalator.
Summer, weekends and holidays produce dense queues. Arrive earlier rather than relying on a fast subway-to-gate run.
Arriving and getting onward
Subway
Use the B1 transfer hall for Lines 4 and 14.
- Best for
- Most daytime city trips
- Watch for
- Rush-hour trains and elevators can be crowded with luggage.
Official taxi
Follow Taxi / 出租车 signs to the underground east or west pickup area, or the signed north hub.
- Best for
- Luggage and direct hotel access
- Watch for
- The nearest queue is not always the shortest during peaks.
E-hailing
Use the designated mezzanine pickup zone in the underground parking structure.
- Best for
- A pre-booked ride with a confirmed zone
- Watch for
- Share the exact zone with the driver; the station has multiple pickup points.
Foreigner notes
Most foreign travelers do not need a paper ticket, but should use a staffed identity channel when directed.
Moving between subway, security, the waiting hall and platform takes longer than the map distance suggests.
Save the train number, departure time and passport details before entering the station so a weak signal does not slow the final check.
Avoid these mistakes
