Beijing West Railway Station
Beijing West is a very large rail hub for central, western and southern China. Lines 7 and 9 arrive below the complex; the essential decision is whether your ticket, hotel connection and pickup use the north or south side.

Preparation steps
- 1
Verify passport details for every traveler.
- 2
Confirm the station reads Beijingxi / 北京西.
- 3
Note the train number and agree on north or south pickup before travel.
The original passport used for the booking; keep the train number, departure time and carriage details available offline.
If the passport does not scan, use a staffed verification lane or ask the railway service desk rather than repeatedly trying an ID-card gate.
Departure walkthrough
Use Lines 7 or 9 for the simplest arrival, or set an exact north/south entrance for a car.
Follow the announced gate and platform; the station's scale makes last-minute cross-building walks risky.
- 1Step 1Choose north, south or subway
Decide before arrival so the driver or metro route leaves you near the intended entrance.
- 2Step 2Complete security with your passport
Use a staffed identity lane and screen every bag.
- 3Step 3Read the live departure board
Match the exact train number; multiple services may share a destination.
- 4Step 4Queue at the correct gate
Keep the passport open at the photo page for manual verification.
- 5Step 5Follow carriage markers
Walk to the numbered carriage position before the train arrives when possible.
Allow extra time for the long walk between some vehicle drop-offs, security entrances and waiting areas.
Arriving and getting onward
Subway
Follow signs to Lines 7 and 9 below the station.
- Best for
- Predictable daytime travel
- Watch for
- Check the final service after a late train arrival.
Official taxi
Use the signed north or south taxi area after choosing the side closest to your destination.
- Best for
- Heavy luggage and direct travel
- Watch for
- North and south pickup areas are not interchangeable for a waiting driver.
E-hailing
Follow floor markings to the selected P-area or South Square pickup zone.
- Best for
- A booked ride with a shared zone code
- Watch for
- Some north-side pickup walks are long; confirm the zone before walking.
Foreigner notes
Show 北京西站 or Beijingxi, not simply 'Beijing station', to maps, drivers and hotel staff.
If an automated gate rejects the passport, move to the human-assisted lane without treating it as a ticket problem.
Save the pickup side together with the train details; a driver waiting at the other side can be difficult to reach with luggage.
Avoid these mistakes
Do not arrange pickup without agreeing on north/south and the exact zone.
Do not plan to arrive at security only a few minutes before boarding closes.
