Booking steps

  1. 1

Open the official East Lake Greenway information page and confirm that it names East Lake Greenway.

  2. 2

  3. 3

At the named gate or staffed desk, present carry the original passport for any staffed rental or paid-project desk; public-path entry has no stated document rule.; do not substitute a third-party booking claim.

  4. 4

Save the official page and follow this fallback if the online route fails: If a paid facility has a separate queue or booking rule, follow that facility's official counter rather than the greenway rule.

How to visit

Start

Chufengyuan entrance (toward Liyuan Plaza, Liyuan Station on Metro Line 8)—the main entrance cited in official reports; the Huguang Overture rest stop (Liyuan Plaza), Tingtao, Moshan, Luoyan and Chu Di scenic areas each have entrances.

Finish

Leave East Lake Greenway from the side closest to the next stop; check the transport note: Use Wuhan Metro or a licensed taxi and navigate with the exact Chinese entrance name. Keep the final section easy enough for a calm return.

Morning or evening (avoid midday sun); spring and autumn are best; the cherry-blossom season (Mar–Apr) makes the Moshan Cherry Garden extremely popular.

Foreigner notes

Save the named gate

For East Lake Greenway, save 东湖绿道 and 沿湖大道16号东湖生态旅游风景区附近 in the map app; a broad venue pin may stop short of the visitor gate.

Passport and phone rules vary

The free public greenway does not require reservation; boats, sightseeing vehicles, bicycle rental, beach and garden projects are separate purchases.

Crowd patterns are starting points

For East Lake Greenway, the usual crowd pattern is only a planning hint; check the day's notice and the queue at the gate.

Check the current opening notice

No fixed gate hours are recorded. The public greenway is multi-entry and free; bikes, boats, beaches and gardens use separate hours.

Keep the arrival point handy

Save 东湖绿道 and 沿湖大道16号东湖生态旅游风景区附近 before leaving; the last walk is easier when the gate is already marked.

!

Avoid these mistakes

1

The greenway is 105 km with long segments—walking it all isn't feasible. Pick a section by stamina (e.g. Huguang Overture–Moshan), or rent a bike / take the official sightseeing car (the official site lists electric sightseeing-vehicle service).

2

In typhoon/storm weather, all commercial rides—sightseeing cars, helium balloons, cruises, paddleboards/kayaks—stop (confirmed during Typhoon Bawei in Jul 2026), and the greenway advises against unnecessary entry. Check the forecast before going; reschedule during typhoons; reopening follows official notices.

3

In cherry-blossom season/holidays, the Moshan Cherry Garden and the Huguang Overture entrance are extremely crowded; some cruise docks suspend in blossom season (2026-03-01 to 04-06: Huguang Overture, Moshan and Lingbo Gate docks suspended; annual-pass users switch to the Chufengyuan dock). Go off-peak; buy a separate cherry-garden ticket; board only at operating docks like Chufengyuan.

4

Paid attractions along the route (cruises/sightseeing cars/Ferris wheel/playgrounds) aren't part of the free greenway—don't assume it's all free. Check the price list before entering a paid item; the greenway itself is free.

5

Wuhan summers are scorching with long unshaded lakeside stretches. Avoid midday; the four major scenic areas along the route have free drinking-water points (cold/hot).
